One of the leading Construction Companies in Oman

The day stated with not much of a success. Inquiries coming from different regions of the world but most of them were either irrelevant or their specification did not meet the type of cranes that we can manufacture. This inquiry was for used self erecting tower cranes and other different types of crane with very high specifications. In between these inquiries we found a very relevant inquiry to our product line and this inquiry was for a tower crane from a company based in UAE. The company is one of the very best construction companies in UAE.

This buyer had a requirement for tower crane with the following specification:
·         Maximum Weight = 12 ton
·         Jib Length = 50m
·         Height =  60m
·         Tip Load = 5t

These specifications for a tower crane are very normal specification and can be manufactured by company with ease. Hence we quoted the buyer for this particular specification, after sending the quotation when a follow up call to the buyer was made he said that yes he had received the quotation and he would be transferring it to its procurement department for further consideration. He forwarded the mail by keeping us in CC so that we can come to know the status of our quotation whenever a conversation in that regards is happening. This buyer also had a requirement for used mobiletower crane, as our company does not manufacture such kind of cranes so it was more of an irrelevant inquiry for us.

A day with not much success

While we were busy in our day to day work we received 3 inquiries in our member’s inbox in just a span of 10 to 15 minutes. One of the inquiries was from a Trading company in Bangladesh which was looking for used mobiletower crane. It was more of an irrelevant inquiry for us because the inquiry had nothing do with the product our member’s company manufacture; hence the inquiry was transferred to another company from China which deals in used construction machinery. The second inquiry was from a buyer from Kenya which was looking for a relatively small tower crane.

The specification of tower crane he was requiring was not of a crane that we cannot manufacture or was beyond our manufacturing capacity. It was for a crane that falls under our manufacturing capacity and one of our crane models was quite suitable to the requirement of the buyer. The buyer required a tower crane of height about 35m, jib length 45-50m, tip load 1 ton and a maximum load of about 4-6 ton. The third inquiry we received from a construction company in Oman which was looking for used self erecting tower cranes. We quoted him the best price for his requirement of used self erecting tower cranes because he seemed like a very potential buyer.

Day with Potential Leads

Today I got few inquiries from tradekey.com one of those inquires was for used mobile tower crane, tower crane and tower crane parts. As the used mobile tower crane inquiry was not concerned to us so transferred that inquiry to one of my colleagues, and contacted the rest of the buyers who were looking for tower crane and tower crane parts. The buyer looking for tower crane parts was a very potential buyer from India he emailed us all the technical drawing and specification of tower crane parts that he was looking for after we had established a contact with him.
The buyer looking for tower crane also provided us with his desired specification and a RFQ was sent to the factory for the quotation of the particular tower crane, this buyer was from Iran and asked for the technical drawing of the crane and the Performa invoice as well. Inquiries from other b2b portals were also received but it wasn’t relevant enough to our product because it was for used self erecting tower cranes. As we are only the manufacturers of tower crane, luffing tower crane, topless tower crane and passenger hoists. So this particular inquiry for used self erecting tower crane was not appealing enough to us.

Buying Request from Indian Buyer

After the two days off Monday is always a tough day at the office. There were inquiries from trade mate on my members profile for used mobile tower crane and tower cranes. As used mobile tower crane is not offered by my member so tower crane inquiry was the one I was focusing on. This buyer mentioned the maximum weight for tower crane he was looking for but did not mention other technical specifications that are required from buyer’s side. The contact details and the email address that was provided by the buyer he seemed to be a good potential one.
As few of his technical specification were missing so decided to give him a call and ask for the details so that we can quote him the price according to his requirement. What he basically required was a usedself erecting tower cranes but as we do not deal in used tower cranes so convinced him on the benefits of getting a new one. He provided us with his detail specification for self erecting type tower crane and asked for FOB price and CIF price to Calcutta, India. His details have been forwarded to our dealer in India and he would be contacting the buyer for further details.

Government Tenders

Currently there is a lot of potential in Bangladeshi buyers. This is certainly not in terms of individual buyers I am talking about it is in terms of Government tenders that are coming up from time to time. There are a lot of construction related equipment that the Bangladeshi government is looking for, what they are actually looking for are regular suppliers who can provide the needed construction related equipment time to time. These suppliers must have equipment such as; used mobile tower crane, tower cranes, luffing cranes, motor graders, stone crushers and all the other different types of construction related equipment.

But the process to participate in these tenders is quite a hectic process because most of these tenders are for Armed Forces such as Navy, Army and Air Force. So the documentation process in order to participate in these tenders is quite lengthy and time taking. One of my colleagues in the office also got an inquiry similar to the one I got in order to participate in these tenders but his inquiry was more related to usedself erecting tower cranes. So the point to understand is that there is quite potential in Bangladeshi market in terms of tenders and becoming a regular supplier for the government.

An unexpected call

Today at around 5:30am in the morning received a call from a buyer of Malaysia with whom we were previously in contact with regarding used mobile tower crane but as my member does not offer this product so I informed her that we do not have mobile tower cranes. Immediately she mentioned about an inquiry for a tower crane of a German brand she also mentioned the model and other technical specifications of that tower crane and asked for other services related to the installation and maintenance of the crane. I asked her to email me all the details.

When I reached the office I immediately checked my inbox, from last week there was a pending inquiry for used selferecting tower cranes. That was certainly of no interest to me and to my member. When I strolled down I found an email from the Malaysian dealer containing all the details regarding the inquiry of the tower crane she was mentioning about. When I mentioned all the details to my member he said that the closest to this specification we can offer her is QTZ 7030, which does not fulfill all their specification but is close enough to what they require.

A Turkish Buyer

In the afternoon received an instant message on Skype from my member. He was talking about a customer who has visited our booth at Bauma Shanghai 2012. He had an inquiry for used self erecting tower cranes and for tower cranes. I decided to contact the customer and inform him that we can only cater his requirement for tower crane. Because we do not manufacture self erecting tower cranes. Products that we manufacture include tower cranes, luffing cranes and topless tower cranes. Tried to call him just before the lunch time but the contact was not established because he was not answering his phone.

After the lunch time called him again at 3pm and this time the call was connected. The buyer seemed very happy about his meeting that they had our booth at Bauma Shanghai 2012. He also mentioned a Chinese distributor through which he has purchased a used mobile tower crane recently. He said that he was very much satisfied with the way Chinese were dealing with him and that’s what motivated him to purchase a tower crane also from a Chinese manufacturer on the basis of his past experience with the Chinese. So we took his required specification for tower crane and are waiting for the quotation so that we can sent it to the buyer.

The man with an attitude

Today when I started my day by logging in to my member’s inbox looking for any new inquiries found some new inquiries regarding used self erecting tower cranes and some related to tower cranes as well. One interesting inquiry that was encountered by me was from a buyer of Pakistan. I was expecting such an inquiry because from few days a visitor from Pakistan was continuously coming to our website and was checking the different models of tower cranes, luffing cranes, topless tower cranes that we have.

This buyer from Pakistan placed an inquiry for a very big tower crane which is usually not expected from a buyer usually coming from Pakistan. And the height he required for the tower crane exceeded the height we had for luffing crane. So I decided to call him in order to ask that if he was fine if we quote him for a luffing crane of maximum height 180 meters instead of 250 meters. We could have quoted him for used mobile tower cranes, because we were having mobile cranes similar to that specification.  Nevertheless  when I called him he was very rude and did not replied to any of my answers properly still because he seemed to be a potential buyer belonging from a good company from Pakistan I decided to send him the quotation. I guess this is one of the lessons you have to learn as time passes by dealing with different types of buyers with different moods. But what one more thing that I think could be a possibility is that these people has to deal with illiterate labor class on daily basis, so they eventually looses the ethics to differentiating between a literate person and an  illiterate one.
